Nestled into the backdrop of the Rimutaka Ranges in the southern Wairarapa above Palliser Bay, Chateau Wellington is an exclusive Edwardian style residence located on Wharekauhau Station, home of the internationally known Wharekauhau Country Lodge.
Built in 2000 to provide the owners the ultimate in comfort and lifestyle this superior residence is also very secure on those days when the warm northwesterly winds are blowing down the valleys or the colder southeries are coming across Palliser Bay.
Located at the end of the picturesque Western Lake Road only ten minutes by helicopter from Wellington airport or approximately one and a half hours drive by car over the Rimutaka's via Featherston, Wharekauhau Station is a working sheep and cattle farm.
It offers a great stepping stone for all the outdoor activities you could wish to be involved in from hunting & fishing to tramping & hiking or exploring the sandy beach on Palliser Bay after a storm.
There are also trips available to the seal colony at Cape Palliser, vineyard tours to popular Martinborough, known for its international wines or further north for trout fishing in the Ruamahanga River and a visit to the well known National Wildlife Centre at Mt Bruce.
To complement all this activity and on days when you want to sit back and relax you can explore you own garden featuring 7 landscaped pond areas and have a dip in the swimming pool or an outdoor shower. For evening entertaining into the wee small hours there is an underground walkin wine cellar and an outside barbecue area for enjoying the clear night sky with sparkling stars overhead.
There are many other beautiful places to travel to in the world but you won't get anything quite as unique as "Chateau Wellington". I should know as I have lived around the corner for twenty years! If you are wanting something special then come and stay - I will even pick you up at the Wellington airport.
